Descrubre tu RUTINA

What a correct and complete make-up removal process should look like

Facial cleansing is the most important step in the daily skin care routine. To prevent the signs of aging from setting in too quickly and too deeply, it is essential to dedicate time to our skin with a daily routine in four steps: remove makeup, cleanse, moisturize and treat. Rocio Franco, dermo-cosmetics expert at Gisèle Denis, tells us what a correct and complete makeup removal process should look like.

"To boast healthy skin, you must start with clean skin. Impurities and dead cells that accumulate on the skin's surface prevent the skin's protective mantle from working properly, causing it to lose its optimal level of hydration and favoring the appearance of uneven spots that give the skin a dull appearance. All this contributes to accelerate skin aging. In addition, a clean face facilitates hydration and the absorption of the active ingredients present in the treatment products," explains Rocío.

The skin should be cleansed both in the morning and at night. When the skin wakes up, it has accumulated waste substances from the skin's metabolism, which is more active during the night. In a first step, we use the cleanser or cleansers that best suit our skin type or personal taste. Next, we gently dab on the toner, which removes any remaining cleanser and refreshes the skin while restoring its natural pH. After this, our skin is ready for the specific treatment and we will ensure that its active ingredients penetrate deeply and perform their function effectively. As a last step, we must not forget the sunscreen and, if we want, the makeup.

Night facial cleansing removes dirt accumulated during the day, sweat, grease, pollution and makeup. To begin with, we should use a gentle eye make-up remover indicated to clean and protect the delicate skin in this area. After that, apply the cleanser or cleansers that suit you best (milk, gel or micellar water) and toner. The skin is then cleansed and prepared to absorb the active ingredients of the night care product.

FAILURE TO CLEANSE THE FACE ACCELERATES SKIN AGING

Lack of cleansing leads to clogged pores, resulting in blemishes, acne, blackheads... Anti-aging treatments lose effectiveness, as dirt prevents active ingredients from penetrating the skin. It can dehydrate the skin and alter the balance of its protective mantle Make-up removal is one thing and cleansing the skin is another.

Depending on the type of cleanser, it is sometimes possible to perform both actions in one. But do not assume that a cleanser will completely remove makeup and dirt.

1. Micellar water:

This is a quick and easy way to remove makeup and impurities, and it is also gentle on the skin. It is composed of a myriad of tiny micelles (bipolar molecules) suspended in water that act like a magnet to remove oil, dirt and makeup from the skin. To use micellar water, all you have to do is pour a few drops on a cotton pad and apply it to the skin - no need to rinse!

2. Eye make-up remover:

This is a necessary product to effectively and gently remove traces of makeup from eyelids and eyelashes, including waterproof or long-lasting products. It should be a product specifically developed for this sensitive area, otherwise it may irritate the skin. It should be used gently.

3. Milk cleanser:

Milk cleansers often contain oils that tend to drag makeup oil, so using a makeup remover milk on the skin can help lift heavier makeup on the skin while nourishing the skin and replenishing its natural balance.

4. Facial toner:

This is a must-have product as the last step of facial cleansing. Toners help to rebalance the pH of the skin after the facial cleansing routine. They also tighten the pores, refresh, remove the remains of make-up remover products and prepare the skin for subsequent care.

our expert's recommendation? Combine two cleansers and always finish with facial toner as a final step. Also, to remove makeup from the eye area, use a specific product, as this is a very sensitive area.
