Descrubre tu RUTINA

Cómo debe ser un proceso de desmaquillado correcto y completo

Facial cleansing is the most important step in the daily skincare routine. To prevent the signs of ageing from setting in too quickly and too deeply, it is essential to dedicate time to our skin with a four-step daily routine: remove make-up, cleanse, moisturise and treat. Rocio Franco, dermo-cosmetics expert at Gisèle Denis, tells us what a correct and complete make-up removal process should look like.

"To boast healthy skin, you have to start with clean skin. Impurities and dead cells that accumulate on the surface of the skin prevent the skin's protective mantle from functioning properly, causing it to lose its optimal level of hydration, favouring the appearance of uneven patches that give the skin a dull appearance. All this contributes to accelerate skin ageing. In addition, a clean face facilitates hydration and the absorption of the active ingredients present in the treatment products," explains Rocío.

The skin should be cleansed both in the morning and at night. When you wake up, the skin has accumulated waste substances from the skin's metabolism, which is more active during the night. Cleansing every morning removes these waste substances and ensures that the skin is ready for daily care. In a first step, we use the cleanser or cleansers that best suit our skin type or personal taste. Next, we gently dab on the toner, which removes any remaining cleanser and refreshes the skin while restoring its natural pH. After this, our skin is ready for the specific treatment and we will ensure that its active ingredients penetrate deeply and perform their function effectively. As a last step, we should not forget sunscreen and, if we want, make-up.

Night facial cleansing removes dirt accumulated during the day, sweat, grease, pollution and make-up. To begin with, use a gentle eye make-up remover to cleanse and protect the delicate skin in this area. Then apply the cleanser or cleansers of your choice (milk, gel or micellar water) and toner. The skin is then cleansed and prepared to absorb the active ingredients of the night care product.

NOT CLEANSING THE FACE ACCELERATES SKIN AGEING

Lack of cleansing leads to clogged pores, resulting in blemishes, acne, blackheads... Anti-ageing treatments lose effectiveness, as dirt prevents active ingredients from penetrating the skin. It can dehydrate the skin and alter the balance of its protective mantle Removing make-up is one thing and cleansing the skin is another.

Depending on the type of cleanser, it is sometimes possible to do both in one. But do not assume that a cleanser will completely remove make-up and dirt.

1. Micellar water:

This is a quick and easy way to remove make-up and impurities, and it is also gentle on the skin. It is made up of a myriad of tiny micelles (bipolar molecules) suspended in water that act like a magnet to remove oil, dirt and make-up from the skin. To use micellar water, all you need to do is pour a few drops on a cotton pad and apply it to the skin - no need to rinse!

2. Eye make-up remover:

This is a necessary product to effectively and gently remove all traces of make-up from eyelids and eyelashes, including waterproof or long-lasting products. It should be a product developed specifically for this sensitive area, otherwise it can irritate the skin. It should be used gently.

3. Milk cleanser:

Milk cleansers often contain oils that tend to drag make-up oil, so using a milk cleanser on the skin can help lift heavier make-up on the skin while nourishing the skin and replenishing its natural balance.

4. Facial toner:

This is a must-have product as the last step of facial cleansing. Toners help to rebalance the pH of the skin after the facial cleansing routine. They also tighten the pores, refresh, remove traces of make-up remover and prepare the skin for subsequent care.

our expert's recommendation? Combine two cleansers and always finish with facial toner as a final step. Also, to remove make-up from the eye area, use a specific product, as this is a very sensitive area.
